In the area of Leadership Training and Growth--FCC in Montgomery is in their second year of implementation of the "Fellowship of Twelve" leadership development program, created by Dr. Susan Diamond.  The monthly program invites up to twelve people, recommended by the pastors and elders, who demonstrate potential leadership gifts, to enter into a covenant for one year to read books about a broad range of leadership topics, discuss together, and pray with one another as they seek God's guidance and direction for the church and its leadership.  We meet three hours one Saturday each month.  A commissioning service is held in December of each year for those who have completed the program.

Seniors--In January we began a monthly SUPER SENIOR Day for our seniors at FCC.  We meet on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for learning, fun, study and a luncheon.  It is a time when our pastors have the opportunity to spend special time with this wonderful group of people, and when seniors have an extra time to be with each other.

FCC Decatur send us information about "Feasting on the Word" Teaching the Revised Common Lectionary published by John Knox Press (Louisville, KY). It is very flexible and very well written, very easy to teach, and age appropriate K through Adult learning activities. There are children's Grade Level (K) 1st - 2nd Grade, 3rd - 4th Grade, Tweens (5th and 6th Grade), Youth, Young Adult, and Adult. We are using it in our "Worship and Wonder" as a supplement and our "Junior Disciple" children's church for grades 2 - 5 during Sunday morning worship. That way the adults in worship and the children will be on the same scripture lesson. I want to use the Young Adult and Adult materials to begin new small groups for discussion starters either during Sunday School time for a new class or offer a small group later on Sunday afternoon / early evening. A new class start using the traditional International Uniform Lessons for younger adults simply does not work! But I think this material just might be very helpful.

It is very well thought out, very well done, and I am excited about it. Barbara Brown Taylor is a co-editor and Carol Wehrheim is the editor. Their web site is feastingontheword.net/curriculum

Thanks,
Cameron Douglas
